As with doctor's conduct, nurse's conduct must adhere to a reasonable standard of care. If a nurse's conduct falls below the requisite standard of care, a nurse can be sued for negligence. Unlike most medical doctors, nurses are employees of the hospitals where they work and the hospitals are vicariously liable for their negligence.
There are frequently disputes between doctors and nurses as to who is to blame for a bad outcome. In other cases, a nurse's negligence can stand alone (e.g., in cases of needle stick, or negligent injection causing nerve injury).
