After a few years of practice Richard left a large downtown Vancouver law firm where he practised. Since that time he has acted solely for injured people.

Richard attended high school on Vancouver Island and competed at a high level in the sport of rowing. Following high school he attended the University of Washington, in Seattle. At the University of Washington Richard’s rowing team won a national championship, and finished second in the Thames Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley, UK. Richard returned to Canada after completing his undergraduate degree and attended law school at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 2000. After being licensed to practice in British Columbia, Richard wrote the California bar exam. He is licensed to practise law in British Columbia and California.

Richard initially began his practice defending insurance companies in personal injury claims. He quickly realized that he wanted to act in the interest of people and not insurance companies. After a few years of practice Richard left the large downtown Vancouver law firm where he practised. Since that time he has acted solely for injured people.

Richard has successfully achieved settlements, judgments and jury verdicts for clients with all types of injuries. He has acted for clients with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic injuries, herniated discs, post traumatic stress disorder, complex chronic pain, depression and anxiety. He has appeared before the British Columbia Supreme Court, British Columbia Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Richard has obtained some of the highest personal injury awards in British Columbia jurisprudence for his clients.*

Richard was the president of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia for the year 2014 and he also serves as a member of the Board of Governors for the American Association for Justice (formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association). In 2015 Richard was invited to sit on the Editorial Advisory Board of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Accident Practice Manual and Richard continues to hold this position.

Richard has been selected annually by a survey of lawyers in British Columbia to be included the publication The Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in the field of personal injury law.

Richard’s ability to practise law in both Canada and the United States allows him to represent Canadians involved in accidents in the United States in addition to his British Columbia clients.

Richard and his daughters, Sydney and Ella, live on the North Shore.
