Tom was born in Regina and grew up in Vancouver. Following high school he attended Indiana University where he was a member of the number one ranked swimming and diving team in the United States. Tom has represented Canada in international diving competitions at the British Commonwealth Games where he won a silver medal and the Pan American Games where he won a gold medal and in the Olympic Games. In 1980 he was inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame.
After receiving his commerce degree from Indiana University, Tom attended law school at the University of British Columbia. Since graduation he has practiced law continuously and primarily in the area of motor vehicle injury cases both for injured victims and for insurance companies. For the past 15 years he has acted exclusively in the interests of injured victims. Tom has been a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia since 1980.
Tom has also been active in community affairs in Maple Ridge having served on a number of mayoral committees including “Fields for Kids”. He is a past Governor of Meadowridge School and a past Secretary of the Westminster Bar Association.
Tom and his wife Pat reside in Maple Ridge. His son Sean is also a lawyer practicing in Melbourne, Australia and his daughter Sarah is the office manager for a medical specialist.
